Project Location: Town of Conway – Intersections of NH Route 16/ NH Route 153 (Washington and Pleasant Streets) and NH Route 16/ NH Route 113 in front of the Town of Conway Library property. Project Description: Intersection Improvements to NH Route 16 including the intersections of NH Route 16/ NH Route 153 and NH Route 16/ NH Route 113, as well as reconstruction, realigning, and widening respective roadways and approaches.

Alvin J. Coleman & Son, Inc. – Phase 1 – Drainage Installation
July 28, 2026 – August 5, 2026 – Alvin J. Coleman & Son, Inc. is currently installing Phase 1 and a portion of Phase 3 drainage infrastructure along west bound lane of Route 113 at the south entrance to the Irving Station and in front of the Apple Tree Village Apartments. There will be a traffic lane shift in the westbound lane in the vicinity of the work.

Project Update as of July 28, 2026
1. Spectrum is still working on the transfer of their aerial facilities, in preparation for their “cutover” to the new Eversource poles on the project. They are scheduled to have their remaining work complete by this coming Thursday July 30, 2026.2. Consolidated Communications will start work on the transfer of their remaining aerial facilities throughout the project area when Spectrum has completed their work. This could start as soon as Friday August 31, 2026. Completion date is to be determined.
3. ITG the utility subcontractor for Consolidated Communications/Fidium is continuing their underground utility relocation work in front of Conway Marketplace, and they are currently on Phase 2 of 3. Completion of their work will allow Alvin J. Coleman to install the proposed Phase 2 drainage infrastructure on the West side of Route 16.
4. Alvin J. Coleman & Son, Inc. has completed their drainage work at the Eastern Slope Dental property.
5. Alvin J. Coleman & Son, Inc. is currently installing Phase 1 and a portion of Phase 3 drainage infrastructure along west bound lane of Route 113 at the south entrance to the Irving Station and in front of the Apple Tree Village Apartments. There will be a traffic lane shift in the westbound lane in the vicinity of the work from July 28, 2026 – August 5, 2026.
6. Alvin J. Coleman & Son, Inc. is scheduled to start Phase 2 drainage work in front of Conway Marketplace when the Consolidated Communication completes their underground utility relocation work.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Main Street Project involves reconfiguring the NH Route 16 and NH Route 113 intersection, as well as reconstruction, realigning, and widening respective roadways and approaches.
The scope of work includes signalization improvements at both intersections, retaining wall construction, and stormwater drainage improvements.
The Preliminary Design phase for the project was authorized by NHDOT in 2018. The Notice to Proceed to the Construction Phase was received from NHDOT April 3, 2026.
The Town of Conway issued the Notice of Award of the construction contract to Alvin J. Coleman & Son, Inc. on April 7, 2026, with a construction start date of April 20, 2026. The construction will last 2 seasons, and will be completed by October 1, 2027.

The next 2-3 months will involve the construction of Phase 1. The 2026 Construction season will include Phase 1, Phase 2, and a portion of Phase 4 work.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
This project is a Federally Funded project through the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT), as the funds recipient through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
NHDOT has provided funding for this project and it is referred to as a Local Public Agency (LPA) project, which is managed by the Town of Conway. LPA projects allow municipalities to develop, improve , and enhance New Hampshire’s transportation network.
Town Engineer, Jim Badera, P.E. is the person in responsible charge of this LPA project for the Town of Conway.

Project updates will be provided on the Town Engineer’s webpage every two weeks. These updates will also be presented at regularly scheduled Selectboard meetings.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PLAN
The Traffic Control Plan (TCP) for the project provides two-way traffic throughout the entire duration of the project. Certain areas of the project will be widened with temporary pavement to maintain the current flow of traffic.
The TCP does not re-route or divert existing traffic patterns onto adjacent streets in the vicinity of the project during construction.
Advanced warning devices including message boards and permanent signage will make motorists aware of the construction activities. Flaggers will be used to direct motorists through the project site.
